Evolving tastes, perfect portability: why we are making the move to 12 oz cans

We know you love our 16 oz cans and the seasonal, more experimental offerings. But sometimes, you need something a little more portable and shareable.

As craft beer and beverage consumption is evolving, so are we. We understand that less is more. For a time, the 16 oz can format has helped smaller breweries like us stand out on crowded shelves. Shifting our core styles from 16 oz to 12 oz cans allows us to stand alongside the big brands on the shelf.

The craft beer experience is evolving. To keep pace with our community, we aim to show up where you are. Whether you’re an enthusiast or a casual drinker, our goal is to make our beer accessible. As one of our customers recently shared, "These smaller cans are perfect for sharing with friends around the campfire. Supporting a small, family-owned brewery like San Juan Brew feels good, especially in a sea of larger companies."

The team at San Juan Brew has been working on this new venture since the end of 2024, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce this format to our customers. The 12 oz lineup

We pride ourselves on creating styles that delight the palate and pair well with food. With the launch of the new size, we aim to bring our passion to more people. This March, you will find three of our most popular styles and a fourth rotating style in freshly designed cans.

The Yachter’s Daughter Helles Lager

This bright and smooth lager is a staple for many loyal patrons. Inspired by the owners' upbringing at Roche Harbor, the Helles is the ideal companion beer for boating adventures in the San Juans. The helm illustration is a nod to all the San Juan boaters.

The Outer Island IPA

Our flagship, our best seller, and our most recognized beer. This ode to the classic 90s IPA is refreshing, with a hoppy aroma bursting with melon and apricot. It’s balanced and approachable—perfect for any palate.

And why a ferry illustration? The WA State ferries are a way of life in the San Juans. Only accessible by ferry or plane, the San Juans hold a unique charm. There’s something about hopping on that ferry and seeing the harbor come around the bend.

The San Juan Pilsner

Our award-winning Czech Pilsner. It’s crisp. It's zesty. It does not disappoint. Now packaged in a more portable size, it’s as practical as it is delicious. Plus, each can pays tribute to our local furry friends, the American Camp prairie fox. These charming foxes have woven themselves into San Juan’s culture since the 1930s and have become a symbol of the island's unique charm.

Afterglow Golden Lager

This refreshing brew is crisp and biscuity. Named after the mausoleum near Roche Harbor, the Afterglow refreshes the palate with a light body and a touch of hop character. Both beautiful and slightly haunting, a visit to this otherworldly monument is worth the trek.

The 16oz can tradition continues

Don’t worry; we’re keeping our 16 oz cans. You will still be able to taste our seasonal and specialty releases, like the Turn Point Mosaic IPA and the Sundew Ale. We know you love this size, and we’ll continue offering the full range of our brews.
